JAMB ANNOUNCES 2017 UNIVERSITIES & POLYTECHNICS CUT OFF
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Tuesday,
22nd of August 2017 announced in a meeting with relevant
stakeholders, the cut off for 2017 into universities and polytechnics.
From the announcement, it is obvious that the expectations of
candidates for this year will be higher than what it used to be.
Before now,
the cut off for most universities courses was 180 and other courses 200.
Although rumour had it that the cut off then for polytechnics was 150, most
polytechnics still go on to sell their admission forms as much as N11, 500.00.
According to statements released from the meeting, the cut off
for polytechnics and colleges of education is pegged at 100, that of innovative
enterprises/institutions at 110 and universities at 120. This calls for
celebration for many students as many of them scored below 180 and had lost
hope. Even as students rejoice and celebrate JAMB, they should bear in mind
that universities also have the power to set their cut off based on available
spaces. This is coming based on the statement made by the Registrar, Prof. I.
Oyedele who said JAMB has only decided the minimum cut off mark for schools and
so whatever cut off the schools decide is their decision.
This is where I find it difficult to understand. Why on earth should
JAMB decide a cut off and at the same time give schools the opportunity to
decide theirs using JAMB’s cut off as only the minimum allowed?
So this is my advice, as you prepare yourselves for the
forthcoming POST UTME exams, also bear in mind that your JAMB score and SSCE grades
are very important in securing admission for you in the present day setting. So
for now, let us fold our arms wait for ASUU, FG and universities to release a
statement that will determine our next step.
Wishing you the best from Bloggerzeedon.
